I agree, Bill, and think your son did the smart thing. It's been 30 years now since I was Commander of the Personnel Division in the Dallas Police Department, so it may have changed, but back then "color blindness" was a disqualifying factor, so that might not have worked out either.

Hakim - Thanks mucho for the background info and links. We will definitely get the book and give it a try before investing $$$. We'll let you know if any improvement. (BTW - never ceases to amaze me as to the depth of information/experience on TBN.)

BB_TX - Points well taken. The AF academy has been a good motivator for him and my son and I both know that if he doesn't get the nomination (or accepted to the academy), his hard work will get him well positioned for college (he's already looking into ROTC). So far, he seems to have the necessary capabilities: grades and physical (color vision has been tested OK), except he's nearsighted. So we're just exploring alternatives to eye surgery. The important point is that this is HIS decision and I can only help guide/facilitate his aspirations.
