Martin,

That black stuff is called reticulated foam. McMaster-Carr might have it. If not, do a Google for Universal Air Filter. You should be able to get it fr them.

My 2550 is a pusher fan. It blows forward and the screen is located behind the radiator between the radiator and the engine.

Are some Kubota's pushers and some pullers?

Guess so. My L2250 is a "pusher" too, not like a car that depends on forward speed to assist the cooling fan. How fast do you usually run your tractor in forward?

To remove an accumulation of hay and other debris, first I tried compressed air, then water. Finally I had to remove the radiator from the tractor then sat down with a pair of surgical forceps and pulled each straw out one at a time. Took the better part of a day to do it. And the "fly" screen? Yes, it's mounted behind the radiator, but the loader arms are in the way, it's impossible to remove without removing some other major component first, like the loader or the radiator itself! The designers must have their head up the exhaust that day!
