Shopping for a tractor and implements is the best part. Just like getting ready for the hunt. Once the trigger is pulled the work begins. I would start with what kind of implements you want. When I bought my last tractor I wanted a FEL and BH. I started with how much the loader needed to pick up and move and how deep I needed to dig with the backhoe and sized my unit that way. I have always bought used. Thats right used. I am envious of all the talk that I view about new tractors but I cannot afford a new one yet. Someday:rolleyes: John Deere is the way to go I have two one for me and one for my darling wife. Tractorhoues.com is where I got mine.:D

SWMBO, wanted to drive the tractor, too. HST was the only "demand" that she put on the tractor. At first I didn't like it but it makes driving very sweet and easy. The older I get, the more I like it.

Since it doesn't sound like heavy work is needed, I would not go big or heavy. B7800??

Who makes B7800?

Nevermind-I see from your signature that you're a Kubota guy. Just went to their site and looked at it. Nice piece of equipment. Now I need to find some pricing and packages to start comparing.

I know this will sound counter intuitive on this website but before I bought a tractor I would buy a nice commercial zero turn mower.

Ten acres with no trees, you could mow the entire thing in a morning, assuming the ground is smooth. If there have been cows on the property (or dogs that like to dig), buy the tractor with the biggest front wheels you can afford.

I bought a commercial mower last summer and they are a joy to mow with. My old ford was left in the barn for most of the summer except for the front 5 acres, dogs were digging out there and I literally knocked a front tire off the mower. A tractor's larger front tire smooths out the bumps. My new tractor is 4WD and the larger front tires is even better.

I Have 60 acres. I brush hog about 20 acres once a year, tractor is required for that. I use the tractor for cutting wood. I will also disc up a field this spring and reseed, lousy horse has destroyed the grass, once again, a job for the tractor. But if you are trying to keep 10 acres mown, a commercial mower really can't be beat.

I have 87 acres with about 60 in woods. For years I used only an old Ford 8N it was and is a good tractor. Ialso had a Massey 85 but it was larger than I needed and difficult to manuver in the woods, also an Oliver cletrac but I only had limited use for this unit so I sold them both. I wanted something newer and I looked at Mahindra, Deere, Kubota, Kioti, Cub Cadet, Branson. They were all good tractors. I chose the Kioti mainly because of the dealer support. Most all here will have personal choices regarding color but almost all agree find a dealer you can work with and who you trust.

Thanks for the welcome. I stumbled across this site yahooing (as opposed to googling) for tractor reviews, and have found a wealth of information in a couple of days. You guys are a great source of information.

Quick question: What is "4WMFWD?" 4w = 4 wheel drive I get, but what is the rest shorthand for?

And while you're at it, was is SWMBO? I've seen that one thrown out there, too. Somebody needs to post a dictionary of terms.

Ahh, don't worry. When I came to this site, it took me 2 weeks to figure out what an FEL was.

I was in a dealship the other day and a B7800 was about 12,500 and the FEL (front end loader) was less than 4,000+ The package was less than 16,000. In Pennsylvania, and, from what I've seen of prices posted on this site, you can probably do better in your state. Good luck! You have a pleasant task in front of you.

10 cleared acres, even with horses, you need a tractor. I have a zero turn, and it is great around the house..maneuvering around the pool, swing set and trampoline. But it wont move the manure, cut the weeds (that the horses don't eat) and transport the feed exc.exc.exc.
