I found a cheap rear grader blade at auction and have since shortened it and am hooking up a ram for angle control. I added a 1" drop of horse mat which works like a great squeegee on the concrete. Here is a video of a little snow before this latest addition I'm discussing now. In the video you can see I have control of the tilt angle with the hydro top link which helps me move over bumps. However (and on to the subject) I had noticed when the concrete started to angle my blade would not....got to thinking I needed a hydraulic sidelink I could put in float.....however my rear 2 spool doesn't support float. So I went to Tractor Supply and for $27 came up with this free floating link which replaces my manual adjustment link.....I think it really is going to work great. I hadn't really seen something like this before but I'm sure it has been done before. Now the blade rides on the contours/slope of the driveway and the weight of this beast keeps the blade on the ground. ....While I was at it I added a 1" thick UHMW strip on my front bucket....I know nothing beats a plow but this setup works for me....

Only work needed was my drill press and an angle grinder....didn't even break-out the welder for this...

I don't have any horses but I too find many uses for horse mats and they come in different thicknesses. Good ideas you got there. I use the mats for debris deflectors on my flail mowers and they would also make good mud flaps. Fairly cheap and readily available.

Just bumping (and updating) this thread because of Winter season coming. The "floating" chain link worked marvelous last year, as did the 1" thick UHMW strip. Here is a pic of the UHMW after one season and I cleared our entire cul-de-sac many many times (asphault) with lots of bucket use on the road. This season I will flip the bar and also use this material on the back blade instead of horse mat as it didn't hold up quite as well (but did a great job).
