Self service...a boon or not??

I wonder if the longer warranties and a proliferation of people leasing cars has done damage to local repair shops?

I can recall pumping Shell gasoline back in 1970 and earning $1.75 an hour...

I bet it someone back then told you that relatively unskilled labor could one day earn $10/hr. you couldn't have even imagine such wealth!

Remember when we were told that self-service was the wave of the future? Well, it has taken me a long time to realize just how commonplace it has become, and while I heartily embrace technology...sometimes I wonder if it's a real step forward for the consumers. What is your opinion?

My opinion is that when a restaurant wants me to cook and serve my own food that we have gone (WAY) too far. :shocked:

yep 60 and 70's , hot dogs roastin on a V8 as you drive .... real interesting when you pull up to a stop light .... sniff, sniff , are they done yet ?

A guy I knew who was really into canoeing got good at manifold cooking. After a long drive into the middle of nowhere on a Friday night, having a hot meal ready as soon as you set up a tent is a nice bonus !

3930dave...made me laugh to check out that link...just how many vehicles today actually give you enough access to the exhaust manifold? Maybe the guys with a truck or SUV with a lot of ground clearance could investigate cooking on the cat converter or muffler? :laughing:

I think that on my buddy's old 80's 3/4 ton Chev p/u you would have had enough room to have 2 good sized pigs on spits under the hood !
