Yes new machines are very spendy, to the point of why have one when you can purchase a 4 wheeled machine for similar coin or less, but most of the 2 wheeled machines are "lifetime" machines, and fit a niche of some sort. Very useful and highly maneuverable, I still use a mid 70's Gravely and it is just tougher than anything short of a farm tractor.

I have a 4 wheel tractor and a BCS853. In the the 2 acre organic market garden area the 4 wheel tractor is only good to pick up stuff. The actual working of the rows is too tight for the 4 wheel. As I said earlier we would be out of business w/o the 2 wheel. Our 2 wheel is used for 2 to 4 hours almost every day and the 4 wheel for maybe 30 minutes.

Stale thread, but all the same I'll add something for the 2 wheelers:

They are far far lighter than 4 wheel tractors and therefore create much less soil compaction.
