Due to a recurring problem with my right arm, I'm selling my Kubota ZD21 and buying something with a conventional steering wheel. Does anyone know if the tranmission problems with the 5000 series tractors that I've seen on some earlier posts have been fixed with the 2005 models? I'm leaning towards the 5254. I don't know if I can justify the the 5234 diesel model. Diesel here in CT is about .25 more than regular gasoline. Has anyone bought a 2005 5254 yet?

Yes, the transmissions in the 2005 models are supposed to have been fixed according to what I have been told by my dealer. The problem with my tranny stemmed from sub-standard transmission parts supplied by a vendor to Cub Cadet. The 5000 series is a great tractor. I have the diesel model, 5234D, and fuel economy seems to be pretty good. I have not quantified that. Forum member "billp" has the gas 5252 model and I think he is pretty happy with it. I know he has done a lot of FEL work with it. If you have any more questions I'll be glad to answer them if I can.
