I have a woods bh 80x backhoe on my kubota b3030, around a year old. It's got the optional manual thumb. I'm thinking about buying a TLB,at which point it doesn't seem like I'd need 2 backhoes, even though I've been quite pleased with the woods.

Question is, is there a used market for subframe backhoes? They obviously aren't as easy to transfer as a 3pt backhoe since a new owner would have to put on a subframe and plumbing.

How would you price it? I paid 7-8k around a year ago, but that included the subframe.

I would sell it with the subframe, there are a lot of B3030 owners I am sure would like a good deal on a backhoe. Price it at about 5K and should sell fast.

I paid about $1000 (installed) for a Woods "new style" (4 point quick attach) subframe a few years ago for my NH TC33D. I had bought a used Woods 7500 backhoe that was set up for 3 point hitch. Converting it to subframe was pretty simple... just unbolted a few 3-point hitch parts from the BH, and bolted a new assembly designed to mate with the subframe. I'd bet there may be others out there interested in doing the same.

The price of steeel has gone up substantially since I bought my subframe, so I'm betting the new price is higher as well.

Funny you should mention that today, CHARLES.

A BH80X went up for sale on the local CraigsList a couple of days ago....
$5K, with subframe. The owner did not know what the subframe was
intended for. I tracked it down to the B2910/B7800 tractors, based on
the Woods part #. I told him he needs to advertise that to maximize
his return on the sale.

You guys raise a really good point. I don't want to take the subframe off because it would be a total pain, and I like the ballast.

But the subframe itself would only fit the b3030, whereas the bh80x would fit any tractor out there (though it would be too large or too small for some of course)

So selling it without subframe and telling people they'd have to buy a subframe to fit their tractor from woods would be the way to go.

So how much without subframe, but with thumb? $5k? or is that too much?

Yes, you could sell it that way. I have sold some hoes that way. The
problem is that a 4-pt subframe costs 850-1250 plus shipping, and I have
had them take over 8 weeks to come. I admonish anyone with a CUT to
NOT use a 3-pt attachment. Some have been willing to build their own
subframes, but that has been rare, in my experience.

I think $5K with the subframe is a good price, but having no subframe
solution for the buyer is a huge limitation. If you promote the 3-pt
attachment method as OK (as do dealers hoping to make a sale), your
hoe will be easier to sell. If you do not have the 3-pt brackets and
enhanced toplink, the buyer will have to buy them (about $400 from
Woods).

Best bet is put it on Ebay as a complete setup for the B3030.

huh, good to know.

I think I'd try to sell it without the frame and tell people they'd have to put it on for around 1k. Taking the frame off is not worth it to me, too much hassle and I like it there as a skid/weight.

I totally agree the 3pt would be a bad idea, especially on a small tractor - the bh80x is a lot of hoe for the 3030, though I like the combo. I didn't realize Woods sold kits that converted it from a 4pt to a 3pt. I assume the hydraulics still work in the same way and there's no pump.

If people aren't interested, guess I'll own 2 backhoes. Not the end of the world.

I'm guessing from what you are saying that the backhoe should be around $4500 even with the thumb? Or does that add more?

Charles - you really will do better to sell with the subframe. The B3030 is a very popular model. Have you considered trading the hoe in on the new machine? Perhaps your dealer has a used B3030 that he wants to put a hoe on. You could have him take it off for you.

I expect you'd get $800- $1,000 more if sold with subframe. Not bad for a day's work... Heck I'm going to be on the Vineyard Memorial Day weekend - I'll bring my tools if you want to split the proceeds.:D

Yeah, I'm also looking into trade in value, and from what I'm hearing just giving it to the dealer might be the way to go.

My natural urge is to keep it, but though you guys have managed to justify two tractors to me, two backhoes is really pushing it.

Thing is, I like having the subframe on there as skid protection/ballast. Not only do I not want the hassle of taking it off, I kind of want to keep it.

I'm not sure if I'll be on the island over memorial weekend, but if I am and you want to visit a tractor, come on over.

Since I've got a B3030 too, I can just walk out to the garage to visit it:) . I've got a BH80-X as well, otherwise I'd be negotiating to purchase yours. If I were you, I'd put some feelers out on craigslist, ebay and tbn classifieds, you may be surprised...

If you are on island - I'll be in Oak Bluffs on a Freedom 38 sailboat named "Duet". White Hull, Navy Canvas. The Marina usually places us towards the public restrooms.
