SemiTruck hitch hook to campertype 5th wheel?

Got the uprights welded in with the 6011 root pass DC reverse polarity. Welds will get ground some and then a final pass with 7018.

Adding doubler plates both sides and then a boxing plate on the outboard side of each upright from the top down almost to the jack gearboxes.

Didnt get much done today other than took a little chunk out of the backside of my right wrist with a 7 in grinder ,golly darn it!!! . Not too bad it was winding down when it grazed me. I had lost my grip and the torque spun it around .

Anyway I need to make a template to match up the angles on my neck to the front sides of the uprights - I hope I can get the angles right and the beams beveled right so that when I hang it up there it fits the first time-- ( good luck to me). I welded the uprights in line with the old ones which werent perfect and the right one is twisted at the top about 1/8 in. So I need to get the new neck cut and ground to make up for it.

12 inch I beam, we used 10 inch for trailers that were capable of loading more than a 3500 dually is allowed to pull... You definately have a stout trailer

By the way, are you going to put air on your 3500, or strip the air and convert to electric over hydraulic ??

Well, I tried and I failed. Tried to hang it by myself since my buddy said he would help and then he left and went to the lake with his gf instead.

Wrestled with it for a long time and finally got it lined up and tacked except the left side lower had a gap and I thought that it would come in when i lowered the hoist some but it refused. Broke the tacks trying to force it down. Will need some more grinding to get the angle correct. Gave up as it was dark by then. Wont be off work to mess with it til wednesday. Phooey!!!!!!!!!!!!!


After its hung I will do all the doublers and crossmembers and gusetts.

Im pulling the air actuator and master out of it and will install a dexter electro-hydraulic pump- the 1600 psi unit for the Alko disc brakes on this trailer.

Its just sitting on the back of the 1/2 ton - dont intend to pull with that one

Davo, I know what you mean when you are talking about the grinder. I'mrestoring a 1950 Dodge truck. I used my 7" grinder to cut an old trailer hitch off and was cleaning up the old welds when my grinder ate the little finger on my left hand. I had both hands on it, the right on the handle and trigger and the left on the side handle. I don't know how it did it, but I didn't like it at all. It split my little finger from the end back about 3/4" Broke the bone and nearly cut the bone into. It's OK now except no feelings in it. Hope yours is better.Later, Nat
