Seniors...how do you stretch the hours to get more things done?

You all are way more productive that my FiL/next door neighbor. The running joke I have with my wife, and MiL is that my FiL is good for 1 (and only 1) thing per day . For example, watering the garden or going to the post office are each 1 thing.

The missus is gonna get you for this....even though it is true..:p

NAH!! I don't have to worry about it! She doesn't even know what a forum is, much less how to find my posts!

Sounds like most of us have developed the same routine. In the heat of summer, I go to work at sunrise, and am pooped by 1100hrs when the sun and humidity puts and end to it. Dirty and sop n wet with sweat, I shower, eat and nap till evening......whence I may go at it again if necessary or if all that interested.

Living alone allows me to ignore the indoor chores like dust and dirty windows, although I try to keep things sanitary.

Some of my better off buddies have A/C and heat in their shop. I guess that would be nice, but not as nice as a nap.
Cheers,
Mike

Sounds like a great plan to me, minus the aches and pains anyway. You guys make me look forward to retirement in about 25 years. Until then I'll just keep pushing to get it all done on the weekends and couple hours at night during the week. Anyway, someone's gotta keep paying into social security for retired guys, ha.

My wife and I both retired in October of 2012. Married for 48 years with two separate careers for the last 30 years or more I can safely say the retirement thing has been great but for better or worse and home for lunch too does take a few links out of one's chain.
As age creeps up things just seem to get heavier and the ol eye sight requires a lot mote light to see the details. I've still got a ton of stuff on the bucket/to do list but am learning (unlike when I was employed) it's not necessary to be productive more than 6 or 7 hours a day, if that. Also learning it's OK to hire stuff like the roof re-do and the hay put in the barn and focus on less physical demanding projects. In a nutshell working smarter not harder.

Each season in life brings it's challenges and rewards and every day I pause to reflect on the technology that keeps us ol goats vertical, and the tools and equipment that take the drudgery out of maintaining the farm. My wife and I have lived on this place for 44 years now and neither one of us is ready for a retirement community in the sun belt. No way no how.

Ah, the heat of the summer. sorry for the android flip. Inside my shops it's cooler than outside. Outside it was 99.

My shops are big

but they are not air conditioned or heated, I can't afford that yet.
This year I've adopted a 4 shirt plan. Get up early, open the shops up to try and catch a breeze around dawn. Then I work until my shirt is soaking wet (usually about an hour or two at the most). Go up to the house, take off my shirt, hang it in the wind from a fan, drink LOTS of water, surf the net and cool down. Repeat. After I'm three shirts to the wind I'll let my self call it a day, might go back in the evening. Lost about 10 pounds this month.

Living with my wonderful wife let's me ignore most of the indoor chores and dirt on the INSIDE of the windows. Although there are still repairs and honey-do's.

I envy you guys that have the ability to take a nap during daylight hours. My body gets me up before dawn and usually even if I've been awake for over 30 hours I can't fall asleep until the sun goes down. It was a REAL pain when I was in Fairbanks, Alaska one summer.

Once upon a time, I had trouble sleeping when it was dark. Now, I can sleep almost any time, and with one or two beers, anytime.

Aw, I'm just going fishing. But wait, I have to clean my shop so I can reach boat. Have to change hitch ball, but where is it?!? Where's my tackle box? Where's my rods? Whew, I'm worn out from digging for me stuff, I'm going inside to take a nap.

Lot's of funny stuff here.......u-tube material....if one was so inclined.

When I used to work two jobs, I'd sleep during church at the Sunday morning sermon. Now I can actually take it in. Some good stuff there. After napping all week, I'm fresh on Sunday mornings.:)
