I have offered to help my neighbor do some repairs and service to his NH TC29 (or 33, I can't remember which it is). Is there some on-line literature available to show some detail? His steering column lock doesnt lock anymore, the column just floats fore and aft, and the parking brake indicator stays lit all the time, and the linkage for the hydro is out of adjustment and the tractor crawls backwards all the time when in gear and some other stuff too. Any literature would help me a great deal 'cause I am a Deere man, so this blue stuff is foreign to me. Thanks.

You can look up the parts manuals on WWW.newholland.com web site. Maybe that would be of some help.

The service manual is available from NH but not viewable online, you have to buy it. The CD version is $255.24 and the paper version is $294.45. If you want the paper version it is available in four different sections, so you could buy only the one you need, $54-73 each, depends on which one you want.

Here's the website if you interested.

Ok, wow. That's a confusing web site if I've ever seen one. So... If I were to buy one of these:
"40323060 3230, 3430,3930,4630,4830,5030 Rts RTS $41.0"
(Supposedly an AG Repair Manual) what would I actually get? I don't see a reference to, say, the number of pages or even the format (you mention CD as a format). Yeah, that's probably encoded in the RTS. So, let's figure this out logically...

Like, by using Google. Ha ha ha.
Russian Trading System. Um. Hopefully not!
Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome. Unless this is talking about people who bought tractors that they couldn't afford - and haven't even received yet! - I don't think this is it.
Revised Trauma Score. Relates to the last answer, I suppose.
Reactive Tabu Search. When your teenager is looking where??? No, this can't be it!
Rauch-Tung-Striebel. Ah, yes, it all makes sense, now!
Revised Technical Specification. Aha! I think we have a winner! But, um, is this a repair manual??? Why would it be categorized as such? I don't get it!

So, yeah. I'd probably like a service manual. The one I found runs $220. Youch! Yeah, yeah, peanuts in comparison to the price of the tractor and yada yada. But, shucks and darn. It's still a chunk of change!

RTS stands for Repair Time Schedule. It'll tell you how much time the reapir will take a mechanic....:)

Well. So I could get one of those and then laugh at myself when it takes me 3-4 times as long! That sounds like a plan!

The "Repair Manual in PDF Format" (#87036756-CD) is available on the NH website for about $75.00. Since the TC29Ds are out of production, the Repair manual is now cheaper. The TC29DA is still available, so the Repair Manual is quite a bit more!

I love the repair manual - typical shop manual - just what you would expect - way more than I'll ever need, but good to have if I ever need it or need to show a good mechanic any details from way back in 2000!

Actually the RTS indicates the number of hours for which the dealer will be reimbursed (at their retail labor rate) under warranty for that repair. The actual wrench time is less. The entire RTS is based on a formula which begins with actual wrench time, then adds amounts for used condition, prescribed diagnostic procedures, parts requirements, etc.

Opti-Mist for sure. The automotive industry may well work that way, but the equipment repair business does not. Few if any equipment dealerships actively seek out warranty work as a profit center as auto dealerships can and often do. It is simply a different world. Flat rates for Ag and compact repairs are determined in laboratory conditions, and diagnostic time is a pittance if allowed at all. Machine cleanup prior to and post-repair is on the store's nickel. So is removing non-OEM attachments such as aftermarket loaders to affect a repair. About the only warranty work in the tractor world that pays is a safety-related recall that the MFG has a vested interest in a 100% completion rate. The losses involved in performing warranty work must be absorbed by the dealership as part of the cost of selling new iron.
