Setting top link on finish mower. Am I doing it right?

/ Setting top link on finish mower. Am I doing it right? #11
I rarely raise my finish mower and just drive where I'm going with it on the ground. The only time I raise it is when I get into a situation where I need it off the ground to avoid what might cause it problems. Just trying to think about the last time I raised it, and I can't come up with a time this year and only think I might have once last year.

The chain idea doesn't work. In fact it makes it harder to shorten the distance to get the mower up higher. I think that chain idea came about years and years ago before top links became common and readily available. It's better then nothing and pretty cheap, but nowhere as handy as a top link.

For the OP, check out Landprides top link system. It seems that is a way to raise and lower it and still give adequate slop for hills etc.

I just got a finish mower for the first time and have been raising it at the end of the row when I have to back up to swing the tractor around. Is that a waste of time? I know it has wheels that swivel, but I thought the wheels would dig in on soft ground when making the transition.

For me, I don't notice anything from the wheels on my finish mower, but I can't speak for yours or your grass. I would give it a try for the simple reason that it's just easier not to have to raise and lower it all the time.
