Setting trade ties maximum width

The Op Manual for my M6040 says - "no wheel spacers, no double tires". My tires have split rims. Outer rim - inner center. The rear tires have eight varying widths - the front tires have six varying widths. My rear tires are loaded with RimGuard and weigh well over 1000# each. I'm not set up to handle a tire at this weight. I would have Les Schwab come out with their service truck if I wanted to alter the rear wheel width.

Safety first. I have a very good idea how long it would take the coyotes to find me - trapped under a fallen tire.

I know that story myself. Had to remove the tires / rims and center section on one of my M9's this summer. So long as one keeps the assembly vertical, no issue. A bit out of vertical, big issue and mine aren't loaded but the entire assembly with cast centers weighs in about 800 pounds a side. Much easier to accomplish with a truck mounted crane (cherry picker). A falling tire / rim assembly can squish you in a second.

I have this picture in my mind. One of my loaded tires falls over on me. Take a brand new tube of toothpaste. Take the cap off and set it down on the floor. Step down on it as hard as possible. You get the picture.........

As with most things if you watch an experienced person do it, it looks easy but it is not for the novice. If the tractor has the multi-piece rims you can make them wide, add the liquid weight and if needed add cast iron weights. If you need more then that you should not be driving there. Thank the Lord you are safe. At some time maybe you could share your story of what happened to cause your accident.

Have not yet loaded but will as soon as I maximize tire width.

You should be able to find the instructions in your owner's manual. it will show you the acceptable settings. Are the tires on your new tractor loaded? I've been resisting doing mine for 20 years but I may become a convert.

I was looking at the pictures that are on the roll over thread and it looks like the wheels are wide but they are not at the widest setting. The center disk are turned the correct way for width but the rims look like they are on the inside of the center disk. They can be set to the out side of the disk and gain a couple more inches in width. As stated before load the tires and buy some iron weights for the rear.

I know some one in the other thread suggested running with the bucket down low to fined the stumps etc in the new, to you, ground. If it has been logged as it looks like in your roll over pictures I think I would chain a large log, 6 inches in diameter, to the front of the bucket parallel to the cutting edge and just slightly wider then the tractor. It needs to hang down and be able to swing a little. You can watch how it is hanging and stop before striking the bucket against a stump or big log that is hidden. Those hidden objects can jar your teeth, if you know what I mean. Remember to keep the bucket and log low to the ground.
