Setting up Powcon 200SM to mig weld?

I have a Powcon 200sm welder with a Powcon Power Drive II wire feed attachment. I use straight CO2 gas. I have only used it for MIG welding but it also has the lead for arc welding.

There is a switch on the front panel with 3 positions. The first position is SMAW / GTAW, the second position is GMAW, and the the position is for spray arc welding (I don't remember the initials).

What would I need to buy to be able to TIG weld with this unit?

It's been a long time since I looked at a Pow-con. That should be a thirty to twenty year old machine.

Any photographs?

They probably had TIG modules you could add and buy, but you should be ready to scratch start TIG right now.

^^what Rock knocker said. For scratch start you'd need a bottle of argon, a flow meter, tig torch with valve, a power block and a length of hose suitable for inert gas..

BTW. I saw my first Powcon just recently. An aluminum boat builder owned two and swore by them! Used the old Profax spool guns with them. And this is a guy with with a shop full of newer machines. Terry

Thanks for the replies guys. It sounds a little more involved than I would like to get into at this time. Perhaps I'll consider it in the future.

I's simple to add a tig set up. Just have the guy at the LWS draw it out for you. Easier than you think.. We used to call them
Kapow Cons because they were the very early inverters and had a history of going Kapow!

Good idea. I might just do that. Mine is on oldie but hopefully it doesn't go kapow. I am really impressed how light this unit is while at the same time how it can burn some serious steel. The other thing I am impressed with is how smooth the mig arc is.
