Setting up rotary cutter on JD2305

Just got a used RC 2048 for my JD 2305. Never used one before so just checking that my thinking is right... I have the 'rockshaft lever' and 'rockshaft rate of drop control lever'.

Am I wrong in saying there is really no way to limit the rear arms from dropping their full extent? In other words, the only way to adjust the depth of cut is to stop the drop using the rockshaft lever, and then shut off the rate of drop knob so it doesn't bleed off lower?

JCC, you have that just about right. That was one of the shortcomings of the JD2305 in particular and subcompacts in general (with an exception here and there). Eventually, you do get used to adjusting it on the fly though and it is not all that big a deal.
