Since early yesterday morning we have had close to 10 inches of rain in my area of middle Tn. (north of Nashville). Some areas south and west of Nashville are approaching up to 15 inches with up to 5 more inches possible before tapering off later tonight. There has been 5 area deaths due to high water and storms with 1 in the I-24 and Bell Road area of Nashville.
Almost all roads in this area are almost impassable with most scheduled events being canceled including local church services.

I'm near the cumberland plateau in TN and we had a bunch of rain yesterday. The bottom of my gravel driveway is partially washed out. I used the tractor/boxblade/FEL this morning to work on the driveway and attempt to improve the drainage in that area. While I was working on that my dog came up looking rather pathetic, turns out he had been bitten by a poisonous snake. Took the dog to the emergency vet clinic, he is going to be OK.

Just finished getting driveway put back using FEL and rear grader blade. Local news are reporting this is the worst and most widespread flooding on record for this area. Some people were being evacuated from their second story apartments with a foot of water in them that were not even in a floodplain, just runoff from adjacent parking lots and such.

Since Friday nite I have measured a touch over 11" at my house, luckily the rain finally quit today about mid-day, even had a little sun peek thru before sunset. Quite a few roads around me in the country here are impassable - some still under water, some just tore all to pieces from water & debris, we took a little drive around this morning locally. Got to try and get my wife to work in the morning in Waverly - they got it even worse than we did and just 15 miles away. Luckily my property is high & dry, my gardens don't look the best right now but we're still in one piece. Got just a little boxblading to do on the end of the driveway.

My father in law recorded about 10" just about an hr east of memphis.

Thankfully we only got about 6" here but it was the worse storm and most rain I remember in one weekend. If we had got double that like some of you it would have been a real mess for sure with deaths too I expect.

Hope for the best for you folks that got it so bad.

A friend's home and the children's area in our former church in Donelson, TN.

The children's area had been completed only a year or so ago and now it looks like all the carpet and about 2 feet of drywall will have to be replaced.

Was it known the house lot was that low before the house was build or is just one of the 500 year type flood?

I just sent AlanB a PM this morning since he is up by Clarksville. Hopefully he is okay and will post again soon.

Thanks for thinking of us folks,

We are fine where I am at, but lots of our fellow townsfolk are not so lucky.

We had some damage on Sat morning about 0430 from some form of micro burst, mini tornado or something that hit our house and the neighbors two over. Spent Monday dropping a tree that had dropped a particularly large branch on my junk cabin and popped a couple holes in the roof. Dropping big trees is scary for me, this was probably 70+ feet tall and luckily still solid at the bottom but the top was rotting out and it was just a matter of time.

The picture of the chair with the pile behind it, that is the brush pile from the one limb that landed on the cabin behind the picture. (big limb)

Then the stump and log and the main part of the limb is to the left of the chair.

Thanks for thinking of us, but we are well and working, I am sure there will be a lot of recovery and some trying times for many folks in the upcoming days.

I don't know what the flood map showed for this house. It is across the street from the Cumberland River below Opryland so logically it had to be in or near the flood plain.

The church sits well above the flood plain, but below the crest of a slight rise so I think water runoff found its way into the lower levels of the building.

It is amazing that there weren't any problems last Friday, but by Sunday afternoon and evening, the waters were rising so quickly that it caught so many unprepared throughout many different communities spread across the state. There's no telling what it's going to cost to clean it all up and make repairs.

One photo from our local community of used motor oil in the water.
