Re: Shady Rest Farmhouse standing...

Our farmhouse is starting to look like a farmhouse./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
The roof is done, the garage is up, the Porch has a roof, the garage & porch floor are poured. The plumbing has started this week, the electric & HVAC probably next week. We will run the water & electric (buried) into the house tomorrow. With weather permitting, we will start seeding the front couple of acres tomorrow. I have 35 bails of straw in the barn. Any advise on seeding would be appreciated/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Its hard to believe but the exterior is nearly complete on our new house. Just some trim & lighting to go up. The vinyl coated spindles & railings went up this week.
The interior drywall and most electric will be done by tomorrow & the painting will start Monday. The cabinets will be delivered tomorrow while we will be picking out carpet & hardwood flooring. The septic should go in the week after next./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
We even have some grass coming up in the front toward the road./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Here's a shot from the road...
We are still concentrating on selling the house in town./w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Wow, love that porch Shade! I've been looking at the vinyl spindles and railing myself. How do you like them? Did you put them in?

Yours is progressing much faster than ours. This weather is just not cooperating /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif We still don't have shingles which will start slowing down other work soon. They did get the basement floor poured the other day, so the framers can finish up and the chimney can start.

It's fun though, isn't it. When do you move in? Good luck on the sale of your current house /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob,
I think that we will like the vinyl spindles & railing with post wraps on the porch. They will be 100% maintenance free./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Here are some of my initial observations...
>They are firm, but probably not as strong as wood. Ours does have a metal frame within the railing that supports everything better. There are some brands out there that do not & I think that they would be flimsy.
>From 12' or more, they look like any others, but from close up, it appears like plastic due to the lack of "grain".
> The only visible screws (white) are where the railings attach to the posts.
> We used silicon to secure the bottom & top molding trim on the posts instead of screws for better appearance.
> The contractor included these at the same price as wood even though they cost more due to the significant installation labor savings.

Otherwise, the interior painting is nearly complete. The cabinets were delivered yesterday. Some flooring will start by the end of the week. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
