Wouldnt surprise me if some were
Some of you sound like drunks I've known, who say they should just be allowed to pay the fine and keep on driving, without learning anything. The trucker who killed my uncle and pregnant aunt back years ago (1964) had 3 previous fatalities, and went on to have two more major accidents before finally getting killed himself. That's one reason we have some of the laws we have.
Nope. The point isn't to get away with everything and not learn anything... just the opposite. If someone causes an issue then penalize them and make it good. So they learn. And so others learn from it by observation and being scared to do the same. But leave folks alone who aren't causing problems. The trucker you described didn't have enough penalty. He should have been in jail for years. Deterrence.
So, the overloaded trailer with bricks guy, let's say he had a trouble free trip. But, what if something broke and it killed a family member of yours? Do you think the brick guy would learn anything at the cost of your family member? How would you feel? Is it fair that someone has to die so the driver gets penalized?
Actually. I hate to repeat this, because it's not what I want to believe. But studies have shown that harsh penalties NO NOT deter people from doing wrong.
And if he can't stop and hits your car?
