A friend told of having that happen except he was driving a loaded log truck, and couldn't stop; he tipped the load over right on top of the car. He thought that he had killed the woman, but she crawled out of the wreckage... it turned out that she was his cousin. He quit driving that day and went back to school.

When I was 16, one of my first jobs that involved driving was an F800 Ford 10 foot dump truck, with air brakes.

I drove it empty, then coming back with a load of dirt, (BIG LOAD!!) a lady stopped in front of me,,

I had JUST enough room to stop that truck,, I thought I was leaving 3X the stopping distance needed,, NOPE,,

I know I turned white as a ghost, I was so scared,, I hit the brakes, and it seemed like nothing happened,, but, the truck slowly came to a stop,,,
The issue with most all dump trucks is that your capable of way way more weight into the bed than the rates payload of the truck is.

Joe Contactor goes and buys his F350 dump with a 10 foot bed. If course he's got his boards on the sides so that when he does that driveway tear out he can really get full loads. His truck is rated for around 5,000 lbs, and if course he's not hitting scales. But he fills it to the brim and complains to everyone that the brakes are weak and the truck has brake, axle, transmission and other issues over the years.

Same goes for Jim Contactor with the F550 dump, and also for Jack Contactor with the tandem dump.

Then.... let's talk this morons with dump trailers who ***** that the trailer can't dump if it's loaded full..... you know..... 2 to 3 times the rated payload. I see this at least 2 times a month. And I always hear how dump trailers are junk by the owners....

I think a lot of people do not realize that a 3 foot cube of sand, gravel, etc can way about 2750 lbs, dryish. Adds up fast.

You really want to surprise someone, look at the weight of clay dry vs. wet, almost doubles. That has got me into trouble more then once when loading my dump trailer.

But I can load my dump truck until it’s spilling out and it will dump so a dump trailer should to..

Got frank the tank stuck twice in last 2 days. the entire place is a swamp and don't dare leave the trails. imho, this is no way to spend retirement.

I just put my bucket list house etc up for sale on craig's list. 100 to 1 against selling it, i've got a small fortune invested.

I could just walk away and start over but, that's not my style.

Funny, you put no owner finance, no rental, no realtors etcetc and those are the only ones that call. And the guy who wants my trees.

Doesn't hurt to ask!

Same with water, saw a truck F150 last fall with three IBC totes on a trailer full of water that rear ended someone.

That's around 9000# of water, could be just within it's tow rating if it was setup right and had the right trailer.
Would however require that the driver was driving safely and didn't get cut off...

Probably within tow rating but also probably came close to doubling the weight of the vehicle/trailer, double the weight requires four times the braking power for the same stop distance and last time I looked at a 150’s brakes they weren’t all that impressive.
