Update to EVER GIVEN’s status in the Suez Canal

29th March 2021

Although the rescue team had originally been scheduled to resume attempts to refloat EVER GIVEN at 14:00 local time in Egypt (20:00 Taipei time), after their site assessment the decision was made to delay that operation while more tugboats are summoned to join the effort. Accordingly, the refloating operation has been postponed to approximately 02:00 – 03:00 local time in Egypt (08:00 – 09:00 Taipei time) on 29th March.

In the meantime, the dredging operation is continuing to make progress. The refloating operation will resume as soon as the additional tugboats arrive to complete the deployment.

Best and most comprehensive explanation I have yet found on Ever Given stranding and recovery:

I too was confused about the name, thinking someone made a mistake. Odd name!

Two bit. Yes, some have speculated, it's just to add to the unfolding global economic mayhem (which it certainly will) . But always being the thinking one. I think they (someone with power and money) could have come up with a dastlier plan than this.

As for that drawing thing? Where where they supposed to have done that? It would have taken a ship that size, a lake, a week with half a dozen tugs!
Sometimes the most effective ‘shenanigans’ are the most rudimentary and seemingly accidental.

The Egyptian Admiral in charge of the canal has said the vessel has been floated, but (according to the BBC)

. . . the CEO of the salvage company involved in the rescue efforts told Dutch public radio that the operation was far from complete.
"We have movement, which is good news. But I wouldn't say it's a piece of cake now," Peter Berdowski said.
He explained that high-pressure water would be used to try and remove sand and clay from underneath the bow of the ship, but if that failed, then containers would have to be lifted in an operation that could take some time.
"The bow is still stuck rock-solid at the moment in the slightly sandy clay," he said.

What is the definition of "floated"? It seems like every day we are hearing it's floated, but also hearing the bow is stuck solid. Does floated mean it's not hung up on both ends?
