For a summer job in college I went on the wheat harvest. I was driving a Mack conventional and towing a trailer with a combine. I was the second combine in our "caravan" headed south to start the season. We were cruising down this freeway when this old guy in a light blue Maverick obviously decided that he wanted to draft off the machine in front of me so he pulled in between us. We mentioned this to the boss who was the lead vehicle and he told us to slow down and get him out of there. So the driver ahead of me slowed down significantly and the guy went around him and then slowed down in front of him so our guy went around the Maverick and now he was back between us so close that the guy in front of me could not see him in the mirrors. (We were talking on the radios.) The boss said to push him out of there so I kept creeping up on him until I could not see behind the rear widow on his car. We just happened to be coming up on an exit so I yanked the horn. i don't think he realized I was near that close but he jumped to the exit and was gone. We had a good laugh - one of many that summer regarding idiots on the road!

I love it!

Here in California I've noticed Sikh drivers (turbaned, whiskered, Indian, not Muslim or Hindu) driving big rigs starting from around Y2K. Mostly agriculture-industry related. They are normal drivers.

However ... When we visited India it seemed that if a big truck was driven in a crazy, dangerous, threatening manner ... you could expect to see a turbaned Sikh trucker in it.

However ... When we visited India it seemed that if a big truck was driven in a crazy, dangerous, threatening manner ... you could expect to see a turbaned Sikh trucker in it.

The Sihks here are generally not to bad, but the others (Indian...) Are plane scary.

Happened in the SF Bay Area on 280...

I have a fear of that happening every time I am behind a truck hauling timber. As you close on them to get ready to pass, I'm always fearful one of them will come loose and wind up in my front seat.

That reminds me of something that happened at work decades ago. The line crew was headed out to a rural job site and the foreman (who was driving) and a jouneyman were following the digger truck which was pulling a pole trailer with a few 35' power poles on it. The digger stopped at a stop sign and the foreman didn't stop until a pole snipe came through the windshield of his half ton truck and pinned his passenger (the journeyman) against the seat. No exaggeration! According to the foreman it was the digger truck's driver who was at fault because he had stopped at the stop sign.
