It's certainly not ideal, but it's not that bad. It's a whole lot better than a lot I've seen.

It's also where most forklifts would set the pallet if he didn't pull off the tailgate.

Having any amount of weight rely on those tailgate straps for support is generally asking for trouble.

Yeah I find it funny how people buy 4 door trucks but want a short bed. Then a tool box and lift it 6+ inches. O kinda wonder what the point of having a truck is at that point. You can't tow or put anything in the bed.

Even the 4dr full size Fords are very hard to find with the "Long" bed... Ford has 3 bed lengths last I checked depending on configuration...

Our 2016 was special ordered to get the 4 door with the long bed (midsize) all the dealers had the short beds...

This guy doesn't have a problem with not enough tongue weight.

I won't use straps for securing a load when they cross an edge, I had a long block on a pallet secured with straps, by the time I got home, two of the straps were cut where they touched an edge. if the straps are tight (like they should be), there is usually enough movement to quickly "saw" through or at least weaken the strap. I continue to buy straps for some reason, like when we drove 280 miles to get our new mower and realized all the straps/chains/etc were in the truck and not the Tahoe we took. Tied it down best we could, drove very slow to the local NAPA store and bought a 4 pack of straps. NO edges were crossed, held up very nice, even had a panic stop and the 1154lb mower did not shift. I have a toolbox that I am going to mount on the trailer tongue that will have an assortment of straps and chains. Just have not done it yet..

My brother is a firefighter and got me a length of condemned hose. I cut off foot long strips of it and insert the strap through that and when I strap something down, I put that over any possible chaffing areas. Works brilliantly. The rubber hose inside helps keep it from slipping and the outer canvas layer is tough as ****.

Fire depts throw their old hoses away after it reaches a certain age (they always cut off one end first for some reason, maybe to prevent corruption where people give away/sell useful hose), so if you want a piece for this purpose it should be easy to obtain although you may need to wait a year or so until their disposal time.

fire hose makes great strap protectors!

I used to have more issues with straps breaking until I started turning them around. Instead of hooking the hooks on the strap to the trailers D-rings, use the hooks on the load and have the strap ran through the trailer's D-rings. The D-Rings are generally smooth enough they won't wear on the strap.

This of course doesn't apply to all loads as all loads do not have a point to hook them, but I've broken a lot less straps since putting the hooks on the load when possible.

The straps get cut (in most cases) because they vibrate. Twist them little bit and they will stop vibrating. Google "Aeroelastic flutter" effect.
