It only looks unusual in todays standards to be pulling a boat/trailer with a car, I can remember back when car's is what we used to tow with, mostly station wagons and large sedans. single cab trucks of past weren't to comfortable to pack all family into,

In that era, a big full-framed Caddy with a large motor could easily tow as much as a lot of pickups.

CHP used to recondition old patrol cars when they retired them - repaint etc - then advertise them as ideal for towing. Heavy suspension, 440 ci, HD brakes, HD cooling, HD everything. A lot of towing capability at a very reasonable price.
