It's Sweden. It's a Volvo.
We were both wrong. It was a VW.

A friend of mine in Tennessee was hauling a big grill cooker for cooking at big parties, a big cooler filled with ice cream and a fairly new steam cleaner for cleaning grills and cookers up. On the way home he lost the steam cleaner and the ice cream chest off the back of his truck and didn't realize it until he was home 45 min. later.

He went back and found the ice cream cooler full of ice cream but the steam generator was gone. Someone else tied everything down for him.

Now he has a truck with a tailgate

My buddy had his 4 wheeler in his bed. When he arrived home it was gone. Apparently his tailgate wasn't shut well. We all got a laugh out of that.

The previous owner of my truck used board across the rear load support slots to do that, so I have continued to use it. Everything from groceries to gas cans to bags of chicken feed. Especially with the bed cover rolled down, it keeps from having to crawl under and fetch stuff out so often, or roll and unroll the cover.

I think a lot of people don't realize what those slots are for. I think they are beyond handy.

When I was in high school over twenty years ago a friend had a baby potbellied pig. The thing was tiny about the size of a football. He didn't want it anymore and gave it to me. He lived about 20 miles from me. I put it in the back of the truck and shut the tailgate. I drove straight home. When I got there it was gone. Tailgate was still shut. It jumped out I guess but I don't really see how. I drove back along my route and never did find it.

That happened to a friend of mine, sort of. He bought a new camper shell. Everything looked great and he drove home. When he got home it was gone. So he went back and told them to "put another one on and fasten it correctly this time!" All at their expense, of course.

Was your friend hard of hearing? Seems like it would have made some kind of noise.

It does seem like he would have noticed.

He's the same guy that had his oil changed in his VW Passat diesel and they forgot to put in the new oil. On the way home, first thing he noticed was it began to slow down as the engine began to seize. So he had it towed back, where they added the oil and sent him on his way. Strangely enough, he drove that car for years after that with no trouble. But we always wondered when it would die.
