Ha ha yeah.
Thanks.

Rough night, but day is improving.

Gotta get that basement done to free up there power wagon time. I've been itching for it for about a year.

Saw a photo of a street light pole on top of a small suv in jacksonville. Got pulled over.

Busted for theft. The driver had a record of 72 scrap metal transactions at the local recycler (they have to record transactions like a pawn shop). The pole is $2500 and by weight, he would received what? ~$20

A year or so ago, we had an unauthorized recycler break into an unoccupied building and try to rip out the electrical system to sell as scrap. Unfortunately for him, he found a live circuit. I've read about people trying to steal the wires from an operating power substation...terminally stupid!

... bumper sticker on it to the effect of "Dodge Power Wagon, 0-60 NEVER!".
In college I had a VW Transporter, the windowless twin of the VW Bus but geared lower than the bus, clearly intended for urban use only. 28 roaring horsepower! Redline 54mph on the speedometer. I got it up near 70 coming down a long freeway grade into Petaluma.

That blew the bottom end of the engine all over the road.

Around here they actually did steal the copper ground system out of a substation and when the weather dries up it failed as it lost its ground return path. Now all the substations are being wired up with copperweld wire, it is copper plated over a steal core, long time back overhead telephone wires were copperweld for the tensile strength but it has zero scrap value.

Few years back we did have a case where a Honda car was going down the road with a wire tied to the bumper and the wheels started smoking as it hooked the wire being pulled on an adjacent power line and was shorting out through the car, by the time the fire department got there it was toasted.

Was on an overnight canoe trip on the Neuse, put in at I-95 Selma and parked our truck down Richard Bridge Rd. (Sat. night, local gathering spot).

:grumpy:
Pretty sure they did not "need" my lynch pin, also, pretty sure they just thought it was funny as heck.

I always double check my connection and that was when I noticed it was missing. Trailer had 8 canoes... and most likely would have been funny... to them. Sorry I had to disappointed them... :(

Yup, you are in my neck of the woods.......

I work for a rental company, we load the equipment when it leaves, and lock it down(unless the customer has their own trailer, then they are on their own) and it never ceases to amaze me how it comes back. I mean, we loaded it correctly, all they had to do was snap a pic and reference it.......Lost a brand new Ditch Witch trencher that way. Customer never chained it down, hit a bump, trencher and trailer parted company. That cost them a pretty penny. The insurance covers wear and tear, not stupidity.
I've seen customers trailers wheelie when loading a bobcat or such, makes an interesting dent in a tailgate, not to mention rear windows. Equipment trailers with 2-5/16 couplers, returned on 2" balls....
One guy dragged an electric brake equipped trailer 20 miles with the safety pin removed, apparently he pulled it to hold the trailer on a hill(There is a sticker next to the pin stating "Do not use to hold trailer in place) and forgot to replace it. He complained that something was wrong with the trailer when he returned it. Pin missing, 4 sets of brake shoes, 4 drums, bearings et-al....$$$$$$$

We have rented from Uhaul about once a year for the last 20 years. Never had a issue with a truck or trailer.

The last 4 times I rented with u-haul I've had issues with the trucks, and had one trailer fall off, but, I should have checked the coupling myself.....
I worked for U-haul as a teen, we were also a Hitch-World, corporate store. I have stories about trucks and trailers. BTW, U-Haul never sells old trailers, they are destroyed after they are deemed unusable. I had a few people haul them in on the old 70's style bumper hitches, looking to purchase a frame mounted hitch. They would leave with a hitch, no trailer. U-haul has a metal tube under their trailers where copies of the ownership papers are stashed. We would install the hitch, then pull the papers, run it through our system, and repossess the trailer.
It's a shame they don't sell them, they are really well made units.

Maybe you can answer this: I rented their alumimum car hauler, the spec plate on it says it weighs 2,000 lbs. My tractor should weigh 1,800 lbs plus the loader. That loaded trailer weighed 5k on a truck scale.

Could that U-haul trailer be much heavier than its plate said?
