California;
near Sao Paulo, Brazil. Truck was hauling a backhoe, somehow the arm rotated outside of the trailer before entering the toll area, arm hit a post on the toll plaza, roof went down. Nobody was hurt."
Dang  timing everything.
Driver thought: I got it chained down at all 4 corners. Why bother throwing a chain on the bucket, it ain't going nowhere without the rest of the machine.

Here's another one; Driver in Hope killed by falling rock
They did catch the offending driver, but if memory serves me correctly he was found not guilty of any crimes.

I touched base on this a few days ago, but the discussion got rather heated so I believe that I deleted my posts. Some people think that it's funny to mess with their fellow motorists. I've had people straddle the lane so that I couldn't get past; or speed up 30 mph when they get to a truck lane, only to slow down when they come to the end of the passing lane. Worst case was when I was on my way home after a long day, the guy would slow w-a-y down until I passed, then speed up and go by me, only to slow down again. Twice I pulled over and read a book for a few minutes because I was getting POed; only to have him waiting for me 1/2 mile down the road.

I've definitely seen folks like that too, but the ones I was talking about are, in my opinion, just doing it based on their own quirks. I don't think most of them are trying to be a pain to others. It's just a weird psychological thing.

I am truly sorry, but I like to mess with stupid drivers. Maybe it's the only chance you might get to get even with these morons! And yes, thinking like that probably qualifies me for that title as well. Not very evolved thinking!

And that is exactly the difference between types of drivers. The faster ones just want to get where they are going and do it efficiently. The slower ones are angry and want to piss off other folks. Back to my philosophy of just drive without impacting others and everything will be better for all.

Had a tailgater follow me on a snow covered highway, wouldn't pass me so when I came to a wide spot I pulled over to let her by. Got back on the highway and soon came up behind her driving 5 mph slower than I had been.

I have that happen in the fog. They'll tailgate me, pass, then with no one in front of them, they find out why I was so slow.

Ditto heavy snow falling...

Particularly at night, when they get in front, turn their brights on and are instantly blinded by the flakes in the air.

However I do try to avoid being behind plows or other big vehicles in the snow- they frequently cause whiteouts, when in front of them the road is fine...

Exactly!! If I want to play games I'll wait until I get home, where I have a horseshoe pit out back.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I can understand someone speeding up a little on straight stretches. There are times when they will deliberately speed up, and/ or straddle the lane to keep you from passing.

The other night we were in the Wrangler heading to town on a 2 lane 55mph road. Often people go over 55 but in the Jeep Im running right at 55mph. There are several ¼ mile stretches where it is a broken yellow line to allow for legal passing. I had a guy right on my butt and we went through at least 3 stretches he could have easily and legally passed us as no one was coming. Another ¼ mile down the road he literally whips over the solid yellow line maybe 75 yards before a hard right turn and starts passing. Well of course a car was coming and I had to break to let the idiot in and not allow him to cause a head on collision. Amazed me how this guy is still alive at this point in his life....... All my wife said was WHY (as in pass here)???

I don't like people that clog up the fast lane...so I'm not a prude. And what you say is sometimes true. But to say fast drivers are basically reasonable and slow drivers are angry is painting with a broad brush. Around here a lot of the folks driving at the limit or a tad under are very senior seniors. We can either take them to the store and take them to the doctors office, or we can be patient with them and hope they can drive a few more years. And at 80 years old, 55 mph in a 55 zone is probably fast enough. I do wish they would use the right lane...

You're right, the term 'slower' wasn't the right one to use. I was referring to the folks who drive slower and actively impede other drivers. There are a lot of drivers who drive slower than the flow of traffic but are considerate and easy to co-exist with. It is the ones that intentionally drive in the fast lane without passing, try to block others, speed up when someone wants to pass them, or otherwise try to be a problem for other drivers. And the ones who don't intend to be a problem but don't pay attention enough to be courteous to others fall in there.

My main point was that the faster drivers usually aren't driving that way because of slower drivers, nor do they typically try to cause problems for them. The reverse is often not true.

I believe it was George Carlin who observed:

Ever notice there are only two types of drivers out there. Anyone who drives slower than you is an idiot; anyone who drives faster than you is a maniac.
