Here, (Ontario, Canada) the price or the rig hardly matters anymore. It's the RULES and TAXES that apply, that govern whether it makes sense or not anymore.

You couldn稚 haul 10 tons at a time but what would you loose with a dump bed that a regular bed does better?

Just off the top of my head; lower initial purchase price, lower repair bills, , lower fuel cost, better ride, better visiblilty at times, easier to get things in and out of the bed, .

I wouldn’t be so sure about the cost part. Probably not a lot of difference either way. Lower repair bills definitely not. Lower fuel maybe but who cares. You’ve already screwed up if that’s important. Better ride again probably not. The heavier bed softens the ride. Better visibility yes. Easier access to the bed again no. Have you seen the new trucks? I’m 6.0’ and I can’t reach the bottom of the bed over the sides on a 2020 stock height half ton. The heavier trucks are even higher.

I would too, but don't have enough work to justify the cost and it could never replace my pickup.

Well it would be a bit much as a grocery getter and not really a replacement for a pickup. But it would sure be nice to have.

And when it has gotten to that point you know things have gotten out of hand with government.

I agree 100%, a heavy 3/4 4x4 or 2WD ton truck is on my "want" list. He's like SR though in that whatever he has is the bst thing for everybody's needs. Either of his dump trucks would be pretty ridiculous for my every day needs, and rather difficult to load the snowsled on at the end of the day.

I didn’t say it was best for everyone’s needs. I did laugh at the foolishness of a regular bed pickup for hauling off broken concrete blocks.

I guess it depends on how often you're demolishing buildings. So far, in my 50's, my current count of "Buildings Demolished" = Zero.

For me, a regular (long bed) pickup made sense. But I'm not a contractor, landscaper, fence installer by trade. If I was, or regularly needed to haul palletized loads on the back of a truck, then a flatbed truck would make sense too.

I find a dump trailer is great for a lot of people. 6 ton capacity, can use with any new truck I buy with no modifications, and cheap to insure ($25 a year). Does everything I ever need to do and I have a normal pickup when needed.
