I simply do all that stuff with a trailer.
Yep. I have a 7K gross 16'x8' wide utility trailer that I use when things get serious.

Why damage my truck bed, I can't haul anywhere near 5K lbs in my pickup but can in my trailer and if I managed to completely destroy the utility trailer I'm out a few grand rather than a $65,000 truck that is our family vacation vehicle.

If I don’t feel like driving my dump truck I’ll hook a trailer behind my suburban. It’s far better than the height of loading a truck bed.

I like your dumper, would love to have a 4x4 dumper, but it is more of a want than a need for me, so I have never pulled the trigger.

My F-150 is really all I need, and will probably never purchase a dumper.

If I had your money, I'd burn mine.
Until then I'll do as most do & get by the best I can with what I have.

A short bed extended cab heavy 3/4 ton is the way to go. It's hard enough to find a place to park it. 18"s more bed is nothing compared to an 18' flat bed trailer. Plus the trailer can hold more than twice the weight. There is a reason you never really see long beds anymore. People have figured out you don't need them. I have never wished mine was a long bed. And I use it as a truck all the time.

I'm continuously amazed at how much better a trailer is than a truck for most hauling. I've only got about $1000 in my used 16' 7K trailer but compared to my truck, the bed is over twice as long, half the height off the ground, and over twice the weight capacity. And when I don't need that capacity, it sits at home. I bought my F-150 thinking I needed that much truck but in reality, a new Ranger would match my needs more. Obviously the situation is different for those of you who really need a 1 ton dump truck, but most of us don't.

That's funny, I was thinking the exact opposite. The reason folks don't buy long beds anymore is they're buying houses with tiny little garages in suburbia, that won't fit a long bed. And their HOA's won't allow them to park the truck outside. That and most of the time they're not actually using their trucks as trucks anymore. Soccer mom's taking the kids to the mall don't need an 8' bed, and it's "too hard" for a Soccer Mom to squeeze one through the drive through at Starbucks.

How many times to folks say the long beds are "Too hard to park".

I've never once, not one time ever, wished one of my long bed trucks was a short bed. I've only ever had one short bed truck in my life, and I frequently wished it was a long bed. Way too many times the "stuff" I was hauling wouldn't fit in the shorter bed without extra hassle. That was 25 years ago, and I never made that mistake again. Long beds for me, thanks.

That’s exactly my opinion. I have dump trucks for real work and my suburban combined with a trailer is far better than a pickup 99 percent of the time. Converting the pickup bed to useable space is several grand for a topper and it’s still not as good as a suburban or van because you don’t have front access.

I agree there. My Tacoma did pretty much all the truck stuff I needed until I started needing to haul the tractor. I can barely park the F350 double cab in the garage. It's very annoying to park at work or lots of stores. I doubt I'd be able to park a long bed at work or a good chunk of the places I go in town.

Anything that doesn't fit in the 6.5' bed goes on the 22' trailer. It's way easier to load & unload especially with pallet forks & it being a deckover. It's a decent bit if effort to hitch up & park, but I dont need it that often.

Sorry, no pictures. I saw something today I have never seen before. Tow vehicle was a heavy duty pickup. He was towing a trailer with a vehicle on it. Attached to the trailer was was a front wheel vehicle dolly with a truck on it. I thought I saw U-haul label on the front wheel dolly. I didn't get a good look to see how the vehicle dolly was attached to the trailer, but we were on the interstate.
