I have never in my life spent more that $7,500 for any vehicle. I dang sure won't do it for a pick up truck, let alone nearly 10 times that. I didn't spend that for my house/property, both cars and tractor all totaled.

There is a certain virtue in living modestly, and I certainly wouldn't criticize anyone on their choices. However, having reached a point where I can give generously to my church and other charities, insure a comfortable inheritance for my children AND have a big house and my F-150 Lariat with leather interior etc, I'm not going to apologize to anyone either. :thumbsup:

There was a truck for sale not too many months ago that looked like it was a former rental unit. I wasn't sure if it was U-Haul or Home Depot. Somewhat larger frame with a bed with low sides and some type of compartments. I didn't look too close because it was more than I could pay. One thing that bugged me though, same as the pictures above, was the height of the bed from the ground. That can be a real pain (literally) when loading or unloading things like bags of concrete. I prefer no more than a few inches above ground, maybe a foot or so. That's where a trailer rules over any truck. Problem with trailers (other than expense and having to have a truck big enough to pull it) is storage between uses. Even my stupid little tinker toy 4x8 utility trailer takes up ground space. Then there's the issue of backing up, which I hate to do even without a trailer.

I don’t mind hauling concrete sacks on a truck. They’ll help load with a forklift and dragging them off at the same height as a mixer is a lot less work than picking them up off the ground. But for moving other heavy things the trailer is the clear winner. Loading something heavy by rolling it up a ramp on a 2 wheeler to a deck that’s only 18” high to start with vs trying to lift it on a pickup is no comparison in difficulty. And then securing it once it’s loaded is again no comparison.

Personally, at this point in our lives, I am regressing back to what I liked as a teenager. RCSB !! Regular Cab Short Bed. My wife and I only, she has the SUV if/when we have passengers so I have absolutely no need for 4 doors on a pickup. None. Ever. Short bed with a toolbox (for tools), anything too big goes on the trailer. Excellent visibility and I can park anywhere, BETWEEN the lines.
Remember when you wouldn't be caught dead owning a 4 door??

I dislike the ability to store stuff in my 2 door but I dislike the length of a 4 door. I fixed both problems with my suburban. The first thing I did when I got it was to remove the 2nd and 3rd row seats. It’s really a 4 door van. If I had to consolidate my 3 vehicles into one it would be a 4500 4 door with a dump bed but that would be a lot of compromises.

I've sure had to shoehorn my 4 door short (6.5') bed 2500 into places. Parking garage with NO MORE than 2" overhead room. Countless narrow spots.

I know how to use my mirrors. Backup cam helps too. But for trips, it's our go-to even when not towing....

Well heck I have no use for a regular cab pu any more.
Got my first 4 door in a 74 Ford F250 in about 80 I've always had an extra cab or crew cab ever since.
Back in my working days the back seat was a desk and precision tool test equipment storage for work,
and room for the kids on weekends. Load up the stock car trailer and head to the track on Saturday afternoons.
Now days no kids and no expensive tools in the back seat but I still buy the crwcab for when we have company to go anyplace.
The only good use I see for a standard cab is for a short wheelbase plow truck,
and thats my :2cents:
Besides which with the mirrors and backup camera I can parallel park fairly well.

Open parking lots sometimes are worse than parking garages. My 2500 4door long bed has done ok in most but I did back into a motorcycle once. It was in a dark shadow and I just didn’t see it. Probably would have done the same thing in a small car. Only difference the car might have sustained some damage but the truck didn’t. The MC wasn’t damaged too bad. The guy was pretty nice about it since I left my contact info on the bike.

He said he had been hit twice before and I was the first one to leave contact info and take responsibility.
