We all need to agree to disagree. Great country that big brother doesn't make ALL our choices, yet.
Personally, at this point in our lives, I am regressing back to what I liked as a teenager. RCSB !! Regular Cab Short Bed. My wife and I only, she has the SUV if/when we have passengers so I have absolutely no need for 4 doors on a pickup. None. Ever. Short bed with a toolbox (for tools), anything too big goes on the trailer. Excellent visibility and I can park anywhere, BETWEEN the lines.
Remember when you wouldn't be caught dead owning a 4 door??
I drive the 4 door-extended cab-long box-super duty-clumsy-monsters at work every day. Hate them.

Well stated!

I dislike the ability to store stuff in my 2 door but I dislike the length of a 4 door. I fixed both problems with my suburban.

That's why I keep my Taurus wagon. Easy for me to get in and out of, easy to park, lots of visibility all around, carries nearly everything I ever need to and pulls the trailer for the slightly bigger loads. I'll miss it when it dies, which it's trying dearly to do.

One of the best vehicles we ever had was a GMC Safari Van. It had removable rear seats. Rear doors opened up completely. Side sliding door. You could put 4x8 stuff in it flat. Good gas mileage. It was a great vehicle to use for rent property work. Had a cargo rack but not a ladder rack.

I have never in my life spent more that $7,500 for any vehicle. I dang sure won't do it for a pick up truck, let alone nearly 10 times that. I didn't spend that for my house/property, both cars and tractor all totaled.
That’s what I paid for my last 2 new trucks... my 83 Ranger and my 84 F150. It’s also about what I paid for my 2004 Ranger when it was 12 years old... and then spent several thousand getting it to where I could use it.
To each their own... my retirement present to myself will be a brand new something, so that I can go wherever I want and not worry about whether triple A will come rescue me.

Re: your trailer. Are you aware that short trailers are the hardest to back up? Especially if you can’t see them until they have jackknifed.

That's one of the nice things about the new truck features. I have the backup assist on my F-150. I originally didn't think it would be worth much since I can back a trailer. However, it prevents jackknifing (which I will admit to having done). Once you put in the trailer parameters and mount the optical target, even if you fully crank the control, it won't jackknife.

^^ I got mirrors. And eyes. Once I hook up the trailer and use both of the above, I'm good.

I believe the tongue length has more to do with it than trailer length. I extended the tongue on my first p/u box trailer as it was waaay too short and since have built 3 of them with extra long tongues. New owners commented on how much easier they are to back up and seem to trail nicer than previous ones. I definitely agree with the backing up opinion but have no proof on the trailing.

Specifically, it's a related to the length from the hitch to the axle (or the center of the axles in the case of a multi axle trailer).
As for how they handle going forward, a longer distance from the hitch to the axle should make the trailer less sensitive to the vehicle wandering back and forth lot swaying) from side to side or any slop in the hitch causing the tongue of the trailer to wander back and forth from side to side.

Re: your trailer. Are you aware that short trailers are the hardest to back up? Especially if you can稚 see them until they have jackknifed.

The visibility thing is obviously the major factor. I have an 18' utility/equipment trailer without sides that is difficult to see behind my Ram 2500 even as long as it is. I added corner markers to alleviate the problem on the rear corners. Made them out of snowplow markers which are bright and flexible and welded up some short chunks of square tube to allow them to fasten into the rear support leg tubes. Trailer length can contribute to the problem due to less visibility and being more touchy on turning/adjustment.

The truck hitch to axle and wheelbase also effects the trailer control. With my ranger ('97) no problems backing utility trailer, including around corners. But same trailer behind my F150 ('16) gets really squirrelly.
