I was behind a guy with a landscape trailer loaded with several sheets of plywood - not tied down in any manner. At about 40 mph the wind got under the top sheet and it lifted up and sailed over the tailgate. Landed in the road. The guy didn't even notice and kept going. I always wondered how many sheets he still had by the time he arrived wherever he was going.

Had one fly out from a trailer ahead of me once. Not fun playing dodge the plywood at 65mph.

I worked a case where a guy was killed when he was trying to retrieve an item like that from a traffic lane on a highway. He was ran over twice.

.
Hmmmm...seems like once would be enough.

Yeah, it was not safe to stop to pick it up, nor did I have any way of carrying it safely at the time. Otherwise, I would have. I've gotten the PVC conduit from the roadside before - of course I'll claim it was to help keep the roads clean and not just to have the conduit

I wouldn't play frogger to get something off the road. Just not worth it.

About 5 years ago i ran into slow driving traffic, 100 yards onward the road was covered in white crumbs. Another 100 yards onward, there was a van of a construction company on the side, towing a trailerloaded with gypsum drywall sheets sticking over the headgate of the trailer. They strapped it down, but 2/3 of the drywall sheets broke right at the first strap, sending the overhang through the sky...

I remember seeing a sheet of plywood blow off a truck one time when driving up I-91 to go back to college in Mass. It sailed right over the top of my car like a floating leaf. Could see it through the sunroof glass. Crazy.

A few months ago, I drove through a construction zone on I-64 here in Virginia. There was debris all over the road, some large. Looked like glass or rock or something, and I figured it was related to the construction. At the next emergency pullover, there was a tractor trailer hauling a load of granite counter top material. Looks like a strap broke and he must have lost numerous slabs. I would have been curious to see that action unfolding, but on second thought, I am glad I missed it.

Hmmmm...seems like once would be enough.

He called 911 after the first time and the operator asked "Is he dead"?
"Hang on" the driver replied, slammed it into reverse and ran over the guy again.
"He is now."
