My thought was a bit different... they should have left the bricks out of the passenger compartment, then it wouldn't have even needed the crusher.

Awwww! Ya beat me to it. But I was gonna say bevel :D

I don't think "using the bed properly" was even possible as those look to be 16-20' long. Those would not stay put in even an 8' bed. The only way to transport decently would be a long enough trailer.

Or a proper ladder rack so that they could sit flat above the cab and overhang front and back.
