Its on a Lexus. Probably only to hold up his/her mountain bike rack. Even so, I'd recommend using a lighter ball, perhaps a plastic one?

That truck weighs close to 30,000 pounds. 2 12k axles are not enough. I would guess the truck axle was over loaded as well.
