have no idea why multi engine is harder
Think of the time just after liftoff from the runway during takeoff. Nose is high, airspeed is low, you are barely off the ground and with nowhere to land. If an engine fails at this time, it is extremely hazardous and even some experienced pilots will buy the farm at that point.

The problem is the engine on one side is pulling for all its worth, and suddenly the other side goes to zero thrust. The "good" engine starts yawing the plane violently, since its only pulling from one side. On the other side, all the "slipstream" from the flow of the now-failed engine has been lost, meaning you've lost lift on that side.

End result: an engine failure on takeoff can quickly roll the plane, or stall the wing without benefit of a good engine, unless immediate corrective action is taken. You need extensive training to quickly a) identify what is taking place, and b) input the *proper* corrective action. A really good option to prevent flipping over is to immediately reduce power on the sole remaining good engine-- but once again, very close to the ground and now with no power at all is also a serious difficulty.

Believe me the elderly here are far from being a problem...

The problem with hundreds cited on a weekend are young, often unlicensed, often hi-performance vehicles where things like stop signs, speed limits etc... simply don't apply...

See the term Sideshow

With a picture worth a thousand words maybe it's time for a dashcam?

As a sidenote the drug dealers announce their presence from the way they rev engines...

Yep, the young street racers and/ or druggies are a bigger problem than elderly drivers.

You said it better... street racing is the new thing and almost exclusively Chrysler offerings...

No margin for error racing on busy city streets and taking over intersections...

To a point. I recall my wife's grandfather wanting to take us for ice cream cones and driving down the centerline so there was plenty of room on each side to stay on the road. Cars honking and going into the ditch everywhere.

Maybe it is a regional thing...?

In large metro elderly drivers seem to be an endangered species compared to the plague if young lawless drivers...

My car has been hit three times and no insurance, no license and no registration... Oldest 23 and youngest 15.

DMV says can only suspend or revoke license so anyone not licensed gets a pass...

Law Enforcement only become involved when someone is injured... so another pass.

I don’t seem to have issue with the young doing much more around me than thier parents do on a regular basis.
The elderly however are a constant danger and it seems I can’t make it one day without one of them pulling some stupid move around me no matter what I am driving.

Are you rural or big metro?

The reason I ask is it does seem rural have less scrutiny in my limited experience... Dad's Nevada rancher friend kept driving with failing eyesight... saying he had a valid license... he was a ways from Elko and miles on a dirt road... someone would have reported him in a heartbeat in SF Bay Area...

Why not both? :D

Actually elders here are a nuisance sometimes driving too cautiously, but they aren't crashing.

The most dangerous freeway stretch I drive (between home and ranch) is I-80 by Travis AFB. (East of San Francisco).

Brand new BMW's, Chargers, and motorcycles race and zig-zag through 70 mph thick traffic up to 30+ mph faster. Apparently airmen who just got a re-inlistment bonus, or maybe first-time California drivers with an enlistment bonus. And lots of cops giving them tickets. I've seen motorcycles down in that area twice in the last couple of months, one in the middle of a several-car crash, all in the fast lane. Driving at non-peak hours doesn't help, that's when the loons go out to race.

Another bad stretch near that is Lakeville Hwy south of Petaluma. 2 lanes. For some reason lots of head-on crashes. There's a sign up now noting 9 crashes in the past 6 months. I came upon one last year just after missing a yellow light. When I caught up with my cohort a drunk had just come over and killed a woman. Then a few months later I dodged a pickup that was half in my lane before he swerved back at the last minute, I think he was texting. I no longer go that way. Now that widening is completed on six lane 101 down to Novato, that takes the same time although its 6 miles longer.

I don't remember driving being this dangerous in my 60+ years licensed. Am I just getting old?

No... just more dangerous drivers and many got a pass in the early days of Covid... no enforcement to be found and city cut traffic division also reassigning to more pressing details

There were articles several months ago then during the pandemic, highway accidents were down but highway deaths were up.
