That’s probably a safety measure to prevent the doors from falling open.
I was driving through a construction site today when I noticed an oversized load of trusses heading toward me. I was watching to make sure I didn't need to move over when the car in front of him suddenly veered into my lane and headed straight for me. WTF? I was going too slow to avoid hitting him so stopped in place. That's when I realized he must have been an oversized escort vehicle, and was indeed trying to run me off the road. Lights, an oversized sign, or at least four ways would have let me know what was going on sooner. He should at least have had his headlights on, it was foggy this AM. It was also completely unnecessary, the road was amply wide enough.

Having hauled heavy equipment for many years I can tell you pilot car drivers are not that smart.
I’ve done a lot of traffic control, for heavy haulers. I’ve also worked a lot of incidents.
The good crews make it look easy. The bad crews make a lot of extra work.
At the end of the day though, I can only control what I do. In this case I should have been paying more attention to the
driver between me and the oversized load. Right or wrong, I have better things to do than get into a head-on collision.
