I find USPS to be more reliable than FedEx, who often doesn't have a clue where my packages are. There is an exception right now though... I ordered 4 books a couple of weeks ago. They arrived at the central distribution center Sunday: next move is onto the truck to the local post office. So why does it have an expected delivery date of Friday?
The answer is spelled D E J O Y. Why is he in charge when he has made it clear he intends to do a "Sears" and run it into the ground?
Speaking of FedEx... I find that UPS outclasses FedEx at every turn. When FedEx shows up here, invariably they take *minutes* looking around the truck for my package. When UPS shows up they are out of the truck with the package in seconds. I've also had situations where my package gets routed very oddly within FedEx's network, sometimes back and forth between regional hubs for no apparent reason and taking days longer than estimated. The inefficiencies are very obvious. I can't see how they can compete with UPS. UPS isn't perfect, for sure, but head and shoulders better.

Well UPS has gotten to be useless, the package that was suppose to be delivered on 01/17 and was at the terminal responsible for that deliver on the 16th, they no longer have it. It was sent from KY to CA. Speak to UPS and all they will say is it is the way it is ROUTED to the final destination. Could not, would not explain WHY it would be at its final delivery terminal only to be shipped out to CA then back to the same terminal in KY. "It is the way it is routed", so sick of hearing that repeated. They are to chickensh*t to simply say we f'd up.

Sorry, so PO'd and needed to vent, MANY $$$ joy riding around the country and b-s for answers.

Having problems with USPS now. Been using them multiple times from Costco with no problems, now I'm getting this crap. Same address, same company, same name. There's been no storms and the same address.

FedEx is normally good here, and today a package is supposedly out for delivery.

But, according to an email yesterday it was out for deliver the day before, which would've been physically impossible. Sometimes no tracking can be better than bad tracking.

Fed Ex usually delivers on time around here, we just never know to which house they delivered our packages. I'd not be exaggerating if I claimed their delivery accuracy was as bad as 50% in our neighborhood, which is strange, since there are only a half dozen houses on our road, with every address clear as day atop a mailbox at the end of each driveway. You'd almost have to try to screw it up.

In a few cases, I've received packages for people half way across town, like literally a mile or three away. I will deliver their packages to them when this happens, since I don't want to hose the recipient. But I only do it at my convenience, like the next time I'm headed out that direction. So they probably report them missing before I get them delivered, as often as not.

We used to see Fed Ex sometimes showing packages as delivered, when they had not been. Then the package would show up the next day. All we could figure was a driver wanted to quit early but not get in trouble for late deliveries, so they reported them as delivered, and then finished the job the next morning.

We never have any of these problems with UPS, only Fed Ex, but these issues are probably all local... unique to our driver(s). Someone elsewhere in the country may experience the exact opposite, comparing these two companies.

FedEx contracts their delivery to independent contractors who in turn contract with individuals to do the routes. Low bid service, compounded. YMMV.

In contrast UPS pays well. People work up the ladder from packer to driver, stay there, but with rigorous standardization and tight schedules that some people wouldn't want to live under.

I've seen shennanigans from FedEx similar to that. More than once I've seen tracking saying 'out for delivery' but the driver never shows up that day. I work from home and my office window looks out on the driveway, plus I have a security system which alerts on movement in the driveway. At the end of the day the status changes to 'delivery attempted - nobody home'. Complete 'male bovine excrement'. Doubly suspect because I have a signature release on file so packages may be left without anyone present. I'd be OK with the status being "just couldn't get there today, will try tomorrow" but to lie is despicable.

Here is what makes Fedex so confusing. Fedex has 2 divisions Fedex Ground and Fedex Freight. Fedex Ground uses their own trucks and their own employees. Fedex Freight uses independent drivers contracted to make deliveries. I have received deliveries from 2 different Fedex trucks in the same day. One was the actual Fedex Ground truck and the other was a contract Budget truck making Fedex Freight deliveries.

You forgot FedEX Express another one running their own deliveries.

The biggest difference between UPS and Fedex is that UPS drivers (with some seniority) make $96,000 per year plus sick leave, vacation, health coverage and more. Fedex drivers are independent contractors are paid the least amount they can get away with no benefits.

Who do you think will provide the best service?
