Following a mini van, full size rear hatch open, couch stuffed in with cushions and pillows.
Legs of couch just touching hatch lip.
No tie downs on pillows or cushions.

Wonder if someone got hit by a couch and if the loose pillows made it home?

And it was raining heavily, so I'm sure the couch was a bit wet by the time they got home.

But they did have the emergency blinkers on

Years ago Dad worked with a guy who drove a Dodge Dart who went to pick up a 16ft 2"×4". Dad asked how he got it home and he said in the back seat with most of it hanging out the window. He said he made it home OK except for knocking some guy down getting mail out of his mailbox.

Single point of failure systems will always fail... eventually. Especially when that single point of failure can be the operator's memory.

Kinda surprising that there's nothing requiring an interlock these days, such that the truck cannot be driven until the crane arm is down and locked. Could be as simple and localized as an interlock on the trailer braking system, thru a solenoid air valve. Most drivers are going to recognize pretty quickly, if their trailer brakes fail to release.

Although an interlock sounds like a good idea, sometimes you need to move the truck forward and backward when unloading a container. I would think a strobe and / or buzzer would be better.

On my snow plow wiring box, it has a bright LED power light. Then, on the control for plow, light for power and light for when down in "float" mode. Had to make my wiring set up for my truck. Wasn't going to pay the crazy amount for the modules! Some switches, relays, and project boxes. Less the $150 for all components, including the wire. Modules are $250 and up!

I didn't have time to get a picture.. but I was picking up some stuff from an auction sale today and there was another person who was hauling out a JD Gator. He was towing it out with a max 3500lb tow capacity SUV (so *maybe* just in spec) and worse had two of the 1000lb ratchet straps on it, one in the front.. and one in the rear.. at a diagonal. Wasn't my place so I just shook my head but I sure hope he wasn't going very far.
