One of the things I enjoy about growing a large garden, besides chowing down on the veggies, is sharing the harvest with friends, family, and neighbors.

I make up sort of a 'sampler pack' of fresh garden Veggie's.

The smiles and hugs received are priceless.:)

I finally remembered to get a picture of this most recent 'sampler pack'.

Yep, Don, I did the same when we had a big garden. That picture sure looks good.

I see you're from Michigan- how close to Kingsley? Just thinking......

You are a very good friend to be sharing such a wonderful looking bounty. And, you are right, it is priceless when the receiver does get the basket of goodies... I've influenced several people to become vegetable gardeners over the last couple of years this way.... Unfortunately, this year has been a bust ! Thanks for sharing.

I'm in the Southeast corner. I saw that the temp's in the UP fell below 40 degree's in the last couple of nights. Brrrrrr........ I'm not ready yet. Still have many veggie's on the vines....although a few of the plants have been voted out of the garden already.

We're fortunate to have a renewable source of compost (leaves) for the garden and a source to draw nutrient enriched water from.

I was lucky to get 30 yards of sand from a nearby construction project this past week. Planning to incorporate the sand next year for crops that do better in sandy soils. I've been told potatoes and carrots prefer a sandy soil?

Sandy for potatoes? Maybe. When i've planted in MA and VT they did just fine in either rocky rich soil (VT) or rocky thin soil (MA). Sandy soil may allow them to breathe more and develop faster... mix it in, you'll see in about 60 days :D
If you haven't grown potato before, you'll like it... big draw for fans for many different types of meals. Not many cry when my tomatoes end ('cept me) but when the potatoes are gone, they always ask for more...

I'm digging and tilling a new plot for next year, how's the leaf compost working for you? I have about 5 yrds ready to go...

I compost it outside the garden over winter, then in the spring, transport it to the garden plot and rototill it in. I have many oak tree's, so I believe the compost is somewhat acidic in nature. The tomato plants sure seem to like it.

Don, our garden almost burned completely up in our run of over 42 days of 100+ weather, but just last weekend we noticed the peppers are coming back and the tomatoes are trying (blooming). Also, melons are resprouting from the hills. I guess it's my garden's last gasp. Your stuff looks very tasty. I especially like the celery and lettuce. Those are hard to grow except early in the season around here.

I start a new patch of lettuce about every four weeks. This gives me an ongoing supply of 'fresh growth' lettuce throughout the season. We had a relatively hot summer for Michigan....nothing like Texas though.
