Sharpened my blades, now the tractor is vibrating.

Yah, figured it out. As you guys suggested there was another problem. There was a cut out in the center of the blades that fit into a similarly shaped excresence on the deck. One of the blades was not engaged onto it. I can't believe I mowed with it that way...could have been disasterous.

They were also unbalanced and ****-retentive me had to spend a half hour balancing them perfectly using a level to ensure perfection. It's purring like a kitten now. Thanks all.

Yep ! just sounds like you have blades out of balance. took more off one side thaan the other. Does not take much to create vibration. Get a cone balencer.

Glad you discovered the main problem. I just made a blade balancer by using two old M4x10x4 bearings back to back, with thrust washers on each end and a fender washer on the outside. Then I stuck a #8 drywall screew into my wall and screwed this assembly into the wall. It turns very smoothly with the blade on it and reveals blade balance clearly. Something to consider making if you have bearings laying around and want more a bit more fluid display of balance than a nail can provide.

I use a balancer ... but one thing I find that some folks might over look is the don't scrap off off the grass and mud off the blades and just sharpen them. This can add weigh to either side and when the mud and grass kick off the blades loose there balance.

OK, now I'm confused...........are you saying leave the mud and grass on when you balance, or don't forget to scrape the mud and grass off before you balance?
