Tractor
yanmar 2000
I have a yanmar 2000 tractor and it is a 2 cylinder.after 6 months of trying to figure out why the tractor has water in the oil, we had the head checked at the head shop and it was fine and putting 2 new piston kits with piston"s rings and liners in it he put the head back on and started the tractor up and it sounded good and then after about 1 minute water started leaking out all around the new head gasket . He then took the head back off and put a straight edge on top of the liners and there was a gap between liners and the block. And the piston"s come up above the block. He then miked the blocked with another block and found the problem .The block has been shaved an18000th of a inch. The head rest on the liners and not the block. Has any one ever had this problem and did you fix it. Or could you tell me how you might could fix it. thanks mark

Might try double gaskets? Maybe a thicker gasket is available? Ken Sweet

I have not seen that. I wonder what made the previous machinist decide
to mill while the liners were out. Of course, the job will have to be redone
with the liners in.

I think he said the pistons were coming over the top as well, so they would need to be machined also. Ken Sweet

thanks for replying ,my dad and I went in together and bought the tractor from an older lady and it looked like new and I see why now . could you tell me about how much it would cost to machine the liners and pistons I did not know you could . thanks

You probably need to have the local machine shop put a price on that. They probably would want it to come to their shop unassembled and the would do the work on the pistons and liners. If it was mine, I would put 2 gaskets on it and run it through a consignment sale and stand back and let her go. Ken Sweet

I would not mill the pistons. 2 gaskets, or a custom-made copper gasket
that is thick enough not to allow the piston to hit the head.
