Hi Everyone - A couple months ago I picked up and HD-8 Post Driver at auction and finally got around to hooking it up this past week. I must say, this thing will really put a post in the ground! I have hard packed sand and my "test post" was only 2 feet in and it was everything I could do to pull the post back out. The one problem that I have with the driver is my valve has a cracked casting and every time I pressurize the cylinder it spits hydraulic fluid. I need to replace the valve and trying to figure out what kind of valve I need. I saw somewhere that Shaver sells the valves for $350, but that seems expensive for a relatively simple hydraulic valve. Would a simple 1 spool 3 position log splitter value be a suitable replacement? I am using the driver on a Kubota L2501 and only have 8.3GPM so I don't need a high volume valve.

Thanks - Ken

Yes a simply hydraulic log splitter valve will work, I will recommend to replace that valve now before that small crack weakens enough and blows entirely apart.

And yes the Shaver HD8 is a great driver and puts posts in teh ground more solid than you could ever dig a hole and pack one in.
