I am a big chicken when it comes to tearing up things, I will have both, shear pin and relief valve.
Everything I make is overkill and does last real good

That sounds like a good plan.

Soundguy,
That is pretty much what I told him via telephone. Thanks for chiming in.
I think he ought to go with a clutch on the drive shaft plus the shear pin, but I can't say too much cause I have not taken the time to add a clutch to my drive line, and I have it out in the garage just waiting on me. (Probably waiting on me to break something and then I will close the doors after the cows got out.)

I know this isn't about snow blowers but that is what I have a major problem with shear bolts with. It is a Ber-Vac 64" and when I run grade 2 pins they sheer pretty much as soon as I start blowing snow. I up graded to grade 5's and even they will shear when I hit clumps of semi frozen snow. I don't want to even try grade 7's but I get sick of carrying a pocketful every time it snows. Any ideas???

If they are the shear bolts that attach the blades to the axle, you need to have a spacer on there that goes from the round axle to the flat bolt head and nut. Otherwise, they break really easily. Mine does the same thing if I don't have the spacers on them. Problem is, it's really hard to find them.
