Most of the beam joints are mortise and tendon or at least rabbited. The inter-beam framing is nailed... It keeps the cost down for a barn frame.

If they do a house, they do all the traditional joinery for the visual appeal.

The loft beams will be rabbited in... They just placed them up there yesterday... The guy has a really cool 16" hand heald circular saw... It's huge...

Lots of mallet and chisel work....

I used one of those when I was timberframing. The startup torque is impressive, and it's hard to turn once it's up to speed because of the gyroscopic affect.

Yeah...they are nice....always wanted one and a chain mortiser but could never justify the cost for the amount of work I would ever do so I have sucummed to a twist drill in a brace and chisels. I do have have a nice japanese socket slick though which is really nice, makes parring a large tenon a simple task.

That's going to be a very fine looking barn, inside and out. The divided light windows make a remarkable difference in the look. Well worth the money.

Cliff,
I do love the transon lights( Windows over door).

The main door is a spit set of sliding doors.

They also have windows in them... It should be very sharp looking....

Now I'm look for some industrial looking lighting fixtures for inside... Bulbs with the protective metal baskets over them.
