Up here we still like to build with wood! I'd say 99% of sheds are made from wood. Maybe it's because of all the forests we have in Maine for example, or perhaps because so many people have woodworking knowledge and few have experience with steel.

That looks a lot like the ones we have around here. There are still some wood ones going up but they're fewer and farther in between.

Here in Texas, Texas is a lot like Australia but evidently we've used better perfume. Our neighbors haven't moved so far away like yours have. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Here in Texas we call a motorized welding machine a "gas drive". When you get out away from places like Dallas etc you see lots of "gas drives" in the backs of trucks. So unlike other parts of the country I'd say working with metal is as popular as working with wood.

I like your truss. Here in norte tejas one like that goes for about a hundred dollars. How much down under?

Steel is starting to be used more in more here but the cost is still higher than wood so it mainly gets used on commercial buildings

Light gauge steel frame construction is used a lot in Hawaii because of the termites and shipping cost of lumber.

For anyone interested in considering this construction method, there is a great book published by Craftsman Press called Steel-frame House Construction. The author is Timothy Waite.
