On your homepage you mention how expensive it would be to have a USDA approved operation. So I always assumed the farm was a labor of love. Yet in this post you mention a USDA vet inspection. Are you now in business?

Nope. We have to be inspected by the USDA for the scrapie program, but as long as we (and our dogs) eat the meat, i.e., none is sold or given to others, the animals don't have to be inspected pre-slaughter.

Think many Etnic groups like their animals about six months old so 10 months should be quite okay.

A check of the records shows Weasley is actually only 8 months old, so better still. And you're right; inside the body hands stay warm...but the dismantling part is tough in the single digits since Tamara insists on helping while my wet gloves turn to ice waiting for her to give up! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

On a more humorous note, we drove Weasley to the slaughterhouse this morning. Stuck him in a dog crate in the back of the truck. Every time he started bashing the crate we tapped the brakes to knock him off his feet. We thought he would be all stressed by the smell of blood when we got there, but he went into a holding pen with about 30 other sheep, half of them ewes in season! Hubba, hubba! When last seen, good old Weasley was thoroughly enjoying his remaining hours! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
