Evening Bob!

I finally found out a little more information about our trip. What do I need to know about what we're doing, I'm just the driver!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyway, we've requested Smuggler's Notch for the resort we wanted to stay at, but we haven't heard back from them yet. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Regardless of where we stay, we'll be up there the week of October 5th through the 11th.

It'd be great if we could figure out a way to meet. I've been PM'ing with Sugarmaker about travel info. too, so maybe he could work it out too. Heck, maybe we can beat the Empire Days record for number of TBN'ers meeting at one time! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Anyway, that's the plan. I'll let you know how things progress! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sounds good Garry.

Smuggler's Notch is a good place from what I've heard. Hope you get your reservations. If not, I can recommend some real nice motels in the Burlington area that may or may not already be booked up.

The week of 10/5-10/11 is a real nice foliage week.....but maybe just a little past peak for the northern VT mountains. Boondox may be a better guide on foliage peak days.

Keep me advised on your itinerary and we'll see what we can do to get together.

Golfgar4,
If you don't hear back from Smuggler's Notch, I can recommend the Inn at Essex. It's about 20 minutes out of Burlington and the service is great!
I "found" it several years back while traveling on business and took the wife back there two years ago this October.
I was impressed the the Shelborne Museum myself, eventhough it was obviously at the end of their season and they were "packing it in for the winter".

Thanks Ralph! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hopefully our plans will work out, but it would be nice to have a back-up plan. I'm afraid we can't wait much longer to hear or we'll really be stuck. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hi Gary,

My place is along the same ridge as Smuggler's Notch, about 5 miles southwest, and at about the same elevation. We've observed what we consider "peak" of the foilage color consistently about October 20 every year for the past 12. I think your visit will be timed perfectly for foilage viewing!

Morning Dave! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We sure hope so! That's one of the main reasons we're coming out there.

Say, why don't you put in a request for us to the state to lock down those colors until we're there!? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif That would be real handy! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Evening Bob, Dave, and Ralph! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, we finally got some good news. We're locked in to Smuggler's Notch /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, but during the week of October 11th - 18th /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I suppose the prime colors will be gone by that time, but that's O.K. It'll still be real pretty, I'm sure! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif And we will be travelling throughout the region the week before, so I'm sure we won't be disappointed!

Well, like I said earlier, I sure hope we can work something out to meet somewhere out there during that week. Let me know how things might work. I've already cleared the meeting with the CFO.....well, at least I told her about the plans! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif She's good with it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Say, you guys wouldn't want to play some golf, would you?? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Garry,

That's still a nice week.....maybe a bit past prime foliage but there will be that autumn nip in the air that will feel invigorating.

So, it seems you'll be in the area for two weeks, ehh? I'm sure we can meet up at some point. Let us know your day to day plans. Not sure about golf.....the best thing I can do in that game is carrying your bag. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif You'd have to give me a real high handicap for me to be anywhere near competitive. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifBut, let me think of some alternative activities and I'll post here. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My father-in-law is an avid golfer. When he came up from Florida for a visit I created a golf course for him in the lower meadow. Used the backhoe to create the "cup." The best part was that even I could hit the target! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( So, it seems you'll be in the area for two weeks, ehh? )

We'll be leaving here the weekend of October 4th and will casually work our way out there by the 11th. Right now we thought we'd swing up through Detroit and cross over into Canada. Then we'd head over in the general direction of Niagra Falls and then head to the Vermont area from there.

We did this 3 week thing last year for the first time. It was great! The first and third week we just meandered in the general direction we wanted to go and played each day by ear. We made no reservations, and if we changed our mind about something, that was just fine. Of course, the middle week we spent at the resort we had booked and enjoyed the area attractions. I guess the idea of not having to be anywhere at any specific time during week #1 and week #3 really made us feel free.

So based on those plans, at this time, the best I can say is that we will be at Smugglers Notch from the 11th through the 18th. But if we firm anything up in the mean time, I'll certainly let you know! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
