Folks ,

I was at walmart the other day and noticed they sell Shell's Rotella diesel 50/50 Coolant , and it was RED in color. I was wondering what the difference was from the normal GREEN . I called my dealer and was not surprised when they told me not to use it. And of course suggested their stuff. Is there any benefit in this RED coolant or is my gut feeling that this maybe a marketing thing so folks will think that the RED color will actually be better.

The Shell Rotella diesel coolant is a special coolant with additional additives and the Nalcool chemical already in it. It is already premixed. It is promoted as an extended life coolant good for I believe 5 years/500,000 miles in a semi over the road truck. It is red in color to differentiate between the standard green coolant. The green and red can be mixed together if needed, but not recommended. The reddish orange environmental friendly car/pickup antifreeze is not the same coolant. You can put the red in your 4110 when a total change of coolant is required (rotella) but would suggest the green for topping off. Hope this helps.
