At the Empire Farm Days booth of Shell, I had stopped to see their large display… I met a neighbor that lives down the road about 2 miles… he’s the New York Shell rep… /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Anyhow, he gave me a ¾ gallon jug of Rotella DFA and told me to give it a try and to let him know what I think of it… So in the next week or so, I’ll add it to my tank (have enough for treatment of 300 gallons of fuel oil) and see what the claims are all about…

The Shell DFA (diesel fuel additive) is suppose to increase the cetane # up to 3 points, cleans injectors, prevents gelling down to -40 degrees (F), disperses small amounts of water from the fuel, improves cold starting, increased power, lower noise, reduces emissions, increased fuel economy, lowers soot level, lubricates fuel system and a number of other things… (see website for fine details /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

I’m not one that uses any additives, and I’ve always cut my fuel with kerosene in the winter for anti-gelling… so this should be an interesting test for me… of course nothing scientific… just a “seat-of-the-pants” observation from yours truly… /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Shell ROTELLA® DFA

“Shell Rotella® DFA is an all-season diesel fuel additive with advanced additive technology specifically designed for today’s high performance, fuel-efficient, low-emission diesel engines. Using Rotella DFA regularly will help clean-up fuel injectors and other vital engine parts and it provides all season performance by preventing gelling down to -40° F. Rotella DFA contains both a special cold flow improver and a de-icer to enhance the low temperature performance of commercial diesel fuel. Rotella DFA is ashless and does not contain chlorine, alcohol or phosphorus.”

I have seen that at Walmart , I use Power Service and was going to try the Rotella but they are more $$$. Not by much but it's hard to break in with a new product when your charging more than what I see all the truckers are using.

I use the power service too. Let us know what you think of the new stuff John.

John:

We'd better be careful about endorsing any products or we most certainly will wind up with the "King of Oils" revisited. I think you are going to be really subjective, you just strike me as that kind of person. Did your neighbor ply you with any other complementary items? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

On the lighter side, I have been using Lucas Diesel fuel additive for a number of years in my diesel trucks, my pickup and in my bulk tank. I can't honestly say it's increased my engine life but I did pick up about 1/2 mile per gallon with my 7.3 Powerstroke. I compared with and without. Lucas also seems to reduce engine (injection) noise. I treat my bulk tank and fuel sometimes sits in the tank for 6 months. I never had a gel problem in the winter or a slime problem in the summer. I talked to the online oil tech over the Shell discussion group and he said some frank words about it.. Let us know but it's hard to evaluate except in black in white.. technical info seems to be right in line with powerservice though..

I run both lucas, powerservice grey+white and DFA I pick them up when on sale 13.99/gal, 7.99, 10.?? a gallon..
Don't realy know if it works or not..

Can't smell anyworse than PS! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You DON"T want any of that spilled on your clothes or in your truck /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Stuff is great but it makes skunks blush!

I know John Miller is one person you would never have to worry about giving a slanted opinion of something.

Yes, John will tell us exactly what he thinks. I for one am interested, I go through a couple of the big jugs of Power Service a year. I have always had good luck with PS, but like others I have wondered about the Shell product.

"Yes, John will tell us exactly what he thinks"

Duh, like everyone else tells you what they don't think /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif? Actually what differentiates JohnboyIII is that he usually has sources of info to back up what he thinks. He must spend an awfull lot of time researching /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifI find these threads informative and I know other people do to /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
