Are you saying that PowerService has a biocide in it? With
the problem I had with my fuel a few weeks ago I strongly
suspect alge growth. I did not see on my PowerService
bottle that it killed stuff growing in my fuel. I can't remember
if its the white bottle or not. Since we are getting so much
rain the tractor is having to sit. And Sit. AND SIT. I think
we have had at least two weeks where it has rained every
24 hours. HEAVY rain. And over the last few months we have
had very few dry days.

Is there another PowerService or some other additive that will
prevent stuff growing in my fuel?

I sent a note to BP a few hours ago. Curious if I'll get an
answer......

My dealer is looking into this as well... I've got a good story
to tell about my dealer in a few days. Excellent Service....

Microbial Clean-ups

I'm pretty sure I have the white bottle PowerService. I don't
remember seeing that it killed the microbes. Looks like I need
to put in the PS Biocide. I'll have to start adding the stuff
since with all of this rain the fuel is sitting for a lot longer than
it usually does.....

Interesting, now my stuff doesn't sit much, gets fresh fuel once a month. Is Biocide still needed?

I thought the off road diesel had that stuff already. Thats what the oil company says. I've never used the Biocide in the tractors red fuel or even my trucks. But, I go through all my fuel once a month to keep everything fresh. We use the transfer tanks on our trucks. I use the white powerservice year round too. I found the web site yesterday and saw the product line. How much does the 96 ounce silver bottle run? I get the white gallon bottles for $11 at the CO-OP. Does the silver bottle cost more? the brown slime needs water to reproduce so if there's no water i believe it can't exist i think that's what powerservice indicates in there faq so if you run something like the PS white it keeps the water seperated and helps keep the bugs away..

I could be wrong about this and I am open to Dr. Richard for a rebuke, but if I am not mistaken, there is always a little water emulsified in the diesel fuel.

As far as biocides, I mentioned in an earlier post that I use some foul smelling stuff that I got from my fuel distributor. Diesel slime isn't green anyway, it's pismuckle brown, and gooey!! I've never had it, but the shop had a diesel pusher towed in about 2 weeks ago. The guy was retired and never serviced the engine, just drove it about 1 time a year. It ran, but had no power. The mechanic spun the fuel filter off and it was filled with brown goo, looked like shiny mollasses. They had to remove the fuel tank, all the fuel lines, filter housing and injection pump. Clean and replace parts the weren't servicable and put it back together. While they were at it, they checked the coolant for DCA and it tested 0. So they did a coolant flush and precharged the system. I was talking to the old geezer and he was mystified as to why his motorhome broke. I just shook my head and walked away. I wonder if they checked his oil or if it even showed on the dipstick!!
Another reason why I don't like to buy used anything. People in general just don't take care of their motorized equipment.

I might add that the above statement goes double for used farm tractors and CUT's too. People flog the living snot out of them and then want a lot of money for a bomb waiting to explode. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yap all diesel has water in it diesel fuel like methanol it attracts water....

Mine from japan had a small amount of slime in the fuel glass.
I've never seen or heard anyone actualy having full blown algae bloom but if something sits a while with water i'd say it'd grow like crazy..
