I have a question. How did you attach it to the back of your garage. I would guess a 2x12 for the header. Did you remove the siding and nail it to the plywood and the cut the siding around header before installing the roof.
The footing will 12" 4 foot deep below the frost line. That part is easy. It's just the attachment to the garage is what confuse's me.

The garage is brand new and the builder installed the 2x10 ledger board for me as he was siding the garage a couple of weeks ago. I attached it to the frame of the garage through the plywood to the studs with a lag bolt called "Timber Loks" which are driven in by a cordless drill. So the ledger board was attached to the wall and the siding was fitted to it, in place. You can see the ledger board before the lean-to was started in this pic.

Wow, you remembered to flash the ledger board. You are a genius!
Regarding the Timber Loks, I have used them and would recommend driving pilot holes for any sensitive boards, not 6X6's.

I hear you...although I didn't experience any splitting with them...as for the flashing, my nephew, the builder of the garage thought of it...can't take credit for that one!
